    Teeth whitening

Teeth whitening is a process by which the natural color of your teeth is lightened without removing any of the tooth surface. Her we have to differentiate between whitening and Hollywood smile where includes sticking ceramic plates on teeth.

foods we eat or drink, and by other habits such as smoking, Tea, coffee, shisha, red wine and other things that have strong colors can darken the overall color of our teeth.

    How to whiten teeth?

Over the counter home kits: are cheaper but they may damage your teeth and gums. Because tooth whitening is a complicated procedure we advise that you always talk to your dentist before starting.

Whitening toothpastes : plenty of them in the market. but they are very mild and very slow and in general if you go for whitening tooth paste I suggest you to go for chemical whitening tooth pastes rather than physical ones containing abrasive agents that may cause you sensitive teeth

Professional bleaching :is the most usual method of tooth whitening. In the first visit your dentist will assess you to see whether tooth whitening is suitable for you or not. They will tell you about the options you have for tooth whitening and which will be the most suitable for you. either Home beaching or in office bleaching .

Home whitening: It is dentist-supervised, in this You will have trays made specially to fit into your      mouth like gum-shields. The whitening gel is then put in the trays for 1-2 hours  .            Chair-side whitening: Your dentist will supervise it. First the dentist, will do cleaning for your teeth and then will isolate gums from teeth using a gel on your gums to protect them. They will then apply the whitening product and focus a blue light against teeth.

Usually the active ingredient for whitening is hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide. As the active ingredient is broken down, oxygen gets into the enamel and dentine of the teeth and the tooth color is made lighter.

     Side effects

Some people may develop some  sensitivity to cold or hot during or after the treatment. Others may have discomfort in the gums, or white patches on the gum line. These side effect are usually temporary and should disappear within a few days of the treatment finishing.

How long will teeth stay white?

Whitening is thought to last up to 2 years. However, this will vary from person to person. But definitely its less likely to last as long if you smoke, or eat or drink products that can stain your teeth. Regular dental check up and cleaning is mandatory Ask dentist for their opinion before you start the treatment.
