    Persistent Thumb Sucking

    Persistent Thumb Sucking

Thumb sucking is a natural reflex for children and considered to be normal before they go to school. When the child sucks their fingers, thumbs, pacifiers and toys, it gives them a sense of emotional security and comfort.

If the child continues thumb sucking after permanent teeth begin to come in, there will be changes in the growth patterns of the jaw and can cause significant misalignment of the teeth. An example would be over bite.

If you observe any changes in your child’s teeth because of thumb sucking, visit the dentist near you.
