    Why is it called Wisdom Teeth?

    A wisdom tooth or third molar is one of the last molars to erupt on each side of the upper and lower jaws. These teeth finally erupt between the ages of 17 and 25. .Most adults have four wisdom teeth, but it is possible to have fewer or more, in this case the extra teeth are called supernumerary teeth.

    Wisdom tooth can be an important asset to the mouth when it is healthy and properly aligned. However there are cases that wisdom tooth come through in the wrong position, which is referred as impacted tooth. This tooth usually requires removal if it causes pain and gum infection.

    Anthropologist believed that the function of these molars have helped our ancestor’s diet in chewing coarse, rough food- like leaves, roots, nuts and meats. The common name wisdom teeth because they appear so late at an age where people are said to become wiser.

    Dental Consideration:

    It is advised to extend your brush to the last tooth specially the wisdom tooth when brushing the teeth, Visit you dentist regularly to assess your wisdom teeth and your overall dental health.
