    What is Dry Mouth?

Dry mouth or also medically termed as xerostomia is a reduction of salivary flow in the mouth.  Dry mouth is common in older people and due to side effects of certain medications like antihistamine.

People having dry mouth usually complained of discomfort that affects talking, swallowing, increase thirst, increase bacteria in the mouth and bad breath. The saliva functions to moisten and cleanse the mouth, also it produces necessary enzymes and other minerals needed by the teeth.

    Dental Consideration:

To treat dry mouth it is important to talk with your dentist in order to find the cause like if you are taking medications that cause dry mouth or other factors. It is also recommended to chew sugar-free gum or suck on sugar-free candy to stimulate salivary glands, drink water regularly throughout the day, use over-the-counter artificial saliva and if available run a humidifier in your bedroom at night.
