Teeth Sensitivity
Teeth sensitivity occurs whenever dentin loses its protective covering of enamel or cementum, exposing the nerve endings to hot, cold, acidic or sticky food and beverages which may cause pain or discomfort. Dentin may also be exposed when gums recede that can result to hypersensitivity.
There are also some possible causes to consider for having teeth sensitivity:
- Tooth decay (cavities)
- Fractured teeth
- Worn fillings
- Gum disease
- Worn tooth enamel
- Exposed tooth root
Dental Considerations:
Proper oral hygiene is required to avoid teeth sensitivity. There are variety of treatments your Dentist may recommend to manage the sensitivity, some of which are application of in-office fluoride gel, and over the counter desensitizing toothpaste. Visit your dentist for proper treatment and help you get rid of your pain and discomfort due to teeth sensitivity.
