Why Teeth Scaling and Polishing important?

Why Teeth Scaling and Polishing important?

Gum disease is often caused by the buildup of plaque (sticky film of bacteria). And it is always forming on our teeth especially if aren’t cleaned well. But no matter how well we clean our teeth there will always be hard to reach areas that are complicated to clean. In these areas, tartar and plaque bacteria will accumulate and might progress into the gum line. When this happens your gums will be inflamed and or will pull away from your teeth and form spaces called pockets. Plaque then gets trapped in these pockets and cannot be removed with regular brushing. If left untreated, this could lead to gum disease and potential bone and tooth loss.

To decrease or avoid the risk of having a serious gum disease problem, your dentist may advise proper cleaning on your teeth through Scaling and Polishing. Scaling is a dental procedure that removes all the plaque and tartar above and below gum line, your dentist will then go to the next step which is polishing. Polishing removes stains on your teeth, it also smooth away teeth surface from minor imperfections, patches and rough texture to protect and prevent your teeth from further plaque buildup.

    Dental Considerations:

To help keep your teeth and gums healthy, visit your dentist for a check-up and have a regular scaling and polishing which is very essential in maintaining good oral health. Also it is important to brush your teeth at least twice a day using a soft tooth brush with fluoride toothpaste and clean in between your teeth using a dental floss daily. Remember that proper and daily oral health care routine at home is needed to avoid having gum disease and other serious dental problems from developing or recurring.

Scaling is one such procedure that keeps your gums healthy and firm. It is a procedure used to remove infected deposits like plaque, calculus and stains from the tooth surfaces. Such deposits, if not removed by scaling, cause infection and loosening of the gums, ultimately leading to pyorrhoea and tooth loss.

I will be sure to take them for their dental work now that I understand that putting them to sleep is an option for creating a more calm experience.
