Visiting our dentist at least every 6 months or as recommended is something that we don’t look forward to. We often disregard our Oral health care however oral issues can develop silently and progress extremely and quickly without noticing it, that is why Dental checkup are so important since it will benefit you from keeping your teeth and gums healthy. At the dental visit your dentist will perform dental checkup and examine your teeth, gums, tongue, mouth and throat for any abnormalities or signs of disease. Dentist might take x-ray to detect cavities between teeth; Dentist may also recommend cleaning or oral prophylaxis. By doing so you’re giving yourself a huge favor by maintaining a good oral health. It also helps you avoid bigger dental issues and might prevent you from undergoing pricey treatments in the future. Your dentist will also teach you good oral hygiene practices, proper brushing technique and likely discuss with you some of our not so good habits that we didn’t realize may affect or cause more serious dental problems.
Remember prevention is better than cure; same as regular trip to your dentist for checkup is a must. Dentist can identify dental problems as early as possible before it becomes a larger oral health issue. So next time you think of skipping your dental appointments make sure you consider all the risk that you might acquire. We also need to do our work by practicing proper oral hygiene on a daily basis at home in between dental checkups.
- Brush your teeth twice a day for 2 minutes.
- Use toothpaste that contains fluoride.
- Clean in between your teeth (flossing) once a day.
- Restrict consuming acidic and sugary foods and beverages.
- Don’t smoke.
- Use mouthwash to help fight plaque bacteria especially on hard to reach areas.
- Have a regular visit to your dentist for checkup and cleaning at least every 6 months.
