Teeth Grinding / Bruxism
According to American Dental Association teeth grinding for adults can be caused not just by stress and anxiety but by sleep disorders, an abnormal bite or missing or crooked teeth. Usually if you are stressed out the result could be grinding your teeth or clenching your jaws, which are called bruxism which happens as you sleep.
Symptoms of teeth grinding for adults include:
- Dull headache
- Jaw soreness
- Teeth that are painful or loose
- Fractured teeth
Teeth grinding is also common in children since their jaw and teeth change and grow quickly. It is not usually a damaging habit that requires treatment. However if you are concerned about your Childs teeth grinding, you may ask your dentist about the probable causes and required treatment.
Other possible causes of teeth grinding in children include:
- Irritation in the mouth
- Allergies
- Misaligned teeth

Your dentist may fit you with a customized mouth guard to protect your teeth during sleep. If stress and anxiety is the cause of teeth grinding, you have to find a way to relax and calm yourself meditation, counseling and exercise may help lessen the stress and anxiety.
